Story

Did you ever notice that people use the phrase "it's for charity" as a talismanic chant to justify various means of misbehavior?  This song just tells it plainly, your donation is just for me.  Don't make me a loan because I will not pay it back, but I'm glad to be your charity.

It's Just For Me

Copyright 2011 Tommy Larkin Music LLC

Verse 1 - Refrain

I’m scared to say

It’s just for me

I’m broke you see

Can I be your charity?

Is there any way?

You could possibly pay

I wasted the cash

run out of stash

I’d pay you back

But we know better than that

Call it a charity

but it’s just for me

Call it a charity

but it’s just for me

Verse 2

I’m scared to say

Don’t work for United Way

The only place that these funds

is going to one

broke down musician

trying to get you to listen

To an important stat

It’s the money in the hat

Doesn’t have to be love

and You can pay at the pub

I’m broke you see

Call it a charity

It’s all for me

call it a charity

solo

Verse 3

I know I look fat

but I’m better than that

Don’t believe how it looks

Get out your pocket books

It’s a good cause you see

Tell your whole company

Send out an email

It’s too important to fail

Some are down on their luck

Could you spare a buck

Call it a charity

But it’s all for me

Call it a charity

But it’s just for me

Verse 4

There’s no limit you see

when it’s all tax free

Fill out a government form

Take the world by storm

We got ……..

  • California Police Activities League
  • American Friends of Ponevez Yeshiva in Israel
  • American Textile History Museum
  • National Drug & Safety League
  • Opportunities for the Blind
  • Disabled Veterans Associations

Verse 5

You can hear them bark

at the animal shelter

For the deprived wives

and the homeless childs

Would I be taller in your eyes

If I was telling lies

About all the good I do

And how you can help too

Just make a donation

Save a couple of nations

Call it a charity

But it’s just for me

Call it a charity

But it’s just for me

verse 6 (repeats 1)

I’m scared to say

It’s just for me

I’m broke you see

Can I be your charity?

Is there any way?

You could possibly pay

I wasted the cash

run out of stash

I’d pay you back

But we know better than that

Call it a charity

but it’s just for me

Call it a charity

but it’s just for me
